The Quest Begins: A Sandy Competition with Jasmine
Part of the joy of Disney Dreamlight Valley is the rich lore you uncover through character quests. Jasmine’s questline is particularly captivating, especially as it provides the first substantial player lore in a while. Once you reach Level Four Friendship with Jasmine, you can start her next quest, titled "A Sandy Competition." When you speak to Jasmine, she reveals that she has managed to decrypt the code on the front of the Secret Journal from her Level Two Friendship quest. The code turns out to be a recipe for crafting one of two keys needed to open the journal. She suggests that visiting Moana at Dazzle Beach for assistance would be a good idea.
Seeking Help from Moana
To find Moana, head to her fishing boat on Dazzle Beach. Interact with the boat, and Moana will appear. After she gives you the fish she’s caught, you can talk to her again. If she disappears before you can initiate the second conversation, check the map; she might be at a restaurant. Once you locate her, Moana will ask you to gather materials for a Sea Sand Torch, which is essential for collecting Sea Sand Sparkles. The required materials are:
- 5 Softwood: Collect from the ground around trees in the Peaceful Meadow or Plaza.
- 5 Fiber: Craft from Seaweed, which you can fish up from the ocean, ponds, or rivers.
- 3 Sand: Dig up from Dazzle Beach using your Shovel.
- 1 Aquamarine: Mine from ore rocks on Dazzle Beach or in the Forest of Valor.
Once you’ve gathered everything, bring the materials back to Moana, and she will craft the Sea Sand Torch for you. Place it on Dazzle Beach, and the game will prompt you to speak with Jasmine, who will be standing next to the torch.
Crafting the Special Starfish with Maui
The next part of the key recipe involves a special starfish. Maui is the best person to know about this. After some playful back and forth, he agrees to a sandcastle-building competition in exchange for the starfish. Jasmine, familiar with sandcastles from her time in Agrabah, will provide you with a Sandcastle Kit. The kit includes:
- 4 Sandcastle Corner Towers
- 3 Sandcastle Walls
- 1 Sandcastle Door
To craft these, you’ll need the following materials:
- Sandcastle Corner Tower: 25 Sand, 6 Clay, 4 Seaweed
- Sandcastle Wall: 15 Sand, 5 Clay, 2 Seaweed
- Sandcastle Door: 10 Sand, 3 Clay, 1 Seaweed
Jasmine will also give you a Castle Centerpiece to enhance your design. Head to Dazzle Beach, open Furniture Mode, and build your sandcastle by placing all the pieces on the beach. It’s a bit limiting that the game doesn’t allow for more intricate designs, but the sandcastle will still be impressive.
Winning the Competition and Crafting the Key
After completing the sandcastle, find Maui and inform him that you’re finished. He will run over to inspect your creation, and Jasmine will announce that you’ve won. Maui will then give you the Special Starfish. With the starfish in hand, head to any crafting bench to craft The Beach Key.
Unveiling the Secrets of the Journal
With The Beach Key in your possession, return to the large flower in Jasmine’s House, where the Secret Journal is located. Interact with the flower and talk to Jasmine. Your character will have a significant revelation: the journal is actually yours. Jasmine asks for more time to examine the journal and the second lock. You can either give her some time or start leveling her up to Level Six Friendship to unlock the next part of the quest.
