Customization in Monster Hunter Wilds: An Overview

Since Monster Hunter Wilds is primarily an online cooperative game, how your hunter is presented to other players can be incredibly important. The game offers a wide range of customization options, allowing you to tailor almost every aspect of your hunter’s appearance and profile. However, this wealth of options can sometimes lead to dense and confusing menus, making the process of customizing your hunter a bit more complicated than it might seem at first glance.

Navigating the Hunter Profile

To change your title or other elements of your hunter’s profile in Monster Hunter Wilds, you need to access the Hunter Profile. The best place to start is at the Base Camp, where you can access the in-game menu without the pressure of being in the middle of a quest. To edit your Hunter Profile, open the in-game menu, navigate to the Info tab (the third from the left), and select Hunter Profile. If the Hunter Profile option is greyed out, it means you’re currently in the middle of a quest objective. In such cases, you need to finish the quest and try again. Interestingly, the game often allows you to edit your profile during battles against large monsters, but this is not advisable. Opening your Hunter Profile during combat will not pause the game, and you might find yourself facing an angry monster while you’re distracted.

Finding the Title Editing Option

Once you have successfully accessed the Hunter Profile, you’ll see a default portrait of your hunter, Seikret, and Palico, along with a nameplate and a title. Changing your title isn’t as straightforward as you might expect. Instead of simply selecting the title, you need to navigate to the Hunter Profile editing menu by pressing L1/LB. From here, you can choose to edit various elements of your profile, including your nameplate, pose, expression, camera angle, and background. To change your title, select Edit Top Page Widgets, then choose your title (which by default says "Novice Hunter"). Press Triangle/Y to change it.

Customizing Your Title

When editing your title, you won’t be able to type in a custom phrase. Instead, you’ll have to select from a list of pre-defined words and phrases. This can be limiting, but it also ensures that the game remains family-friendly. You can create a title using up to three words or phrases. For example, I changed my title to "Excited Looking Horn," which I felt best represented my personality as a Monster Hunter. Other options might include "Hunter So Blue" or "Charge Blade V Switch Axe," depending on your preferences and play style.

Additional Customization Options

After giving yourself the perfect title, you might also want to explore other customization options. You can change your hunter’s appearance, including their hairstyle, facial features, and outfit. Additionally, you can customize your Seikret, a semi-mechanical companion that can assist you in battles. These changes can help you stand out and make your hunter feel more personal and unique.

Conclusion

Customizing your hunter in Monster Hunter Wilds can be a rewarding experience, allowing you to create a character that truly represents you. While the process can be a bit convoluted, taking the time to navigate the menus and find the right options can result in a hunter that you are proud to show off to other players. Whether you’re changing your title to something witty or tweaking your appearance to match your favorite outfit, the customization options in Monster Hunter Wilds offer a lot of depth and variety. So, take your time, experiment, and have fun crafting your perfect hunter.
