The Siege and Captivity
In the intense world of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, your efforts to hold your own during a significant siege are thwarted by Otto von Bergow’s men. Despite your best efforts, you find yourself captured and brought back to Trosky Castle, where you are now a prisoner. Your freedom is at stake, and the main quest, "The Storm," demands that you escape. This isn’t just a simple breakout; you have a score to settle and critical documents to retrieve.
Strategic Approach to Escape
The path to freedom in "The Storm" requires a delicate balance of stealth and quick thinking. You must move through the castle swiftly and quietly to avoid detection by the guards. Your primary objectives are to deal with Istvan, who led your torture and has your equipment, and to find the documents from Sigismund, which are crucial for your escape. These documents and your equipment are located in the Crone’s tower, situated on the southwest side of Trosky Castle.
Before embarking on this dangerous journey, you might consider equipping yourself with the armor and military sword from the guard Katherine killed. While this approach could make you more visible, it’s a choice that depends on your playstyle. Your initial escape is aided by Katherine, who provides you with a dagger. You must navigate through the castle, avoiding the courtyard where guards are most active.
Navigating the Crone’s Tower
To reach the Crone’s tower, you should proceed to the second floor of your current tower and cross the walkway. Inside the pantry, you’ll encounter a guard searching for wine. Dispatch him quietly and hide his body to avoid alerting other guards. Moving through the upper areas of the castle is essential to avoid detection. When you reach the midway point above the courtyard, a short cutscene will play. Afterward, continue to the left to avoid the patrolling guard on the right. This path leads you to the Crone’s tower.
Inside the Crone’s tower, you will face more guards. Your first goal is to find the orders from Sigismund. Head upstairs to the Scribe’s room, where you will encounter two guards drinking at a table. Wait until one guard leaves, then deal with the remaining guard and hide the body. Once the area is clear, search the chests for the orders. If the orders are not there, they are likely in Istvan’s chambers.
Confronting Istvan
Continuing your ascent, you will reach Istvan’s chamber. A cutscene will play, introducing you to Istvan. You have several choices on how to deal with him: fight him dishonorably, accept a duel, or talk to him. If you choose to speak, Istvan will explain his motives, but none of the dialogue options lead to a peaceful resolution. The dishonorable route involves stabbing and throwing Istvan out a window, while the duel requires you to defeat him in combat. Regardless of your choice, Istvan’s story comes to an end, and you can retrieve your equipment and the orders from his room.
Finding Sigismund’s Orders
After dealing with Istvan, you must return to your companions and check if Godwin has found the orders. Head to Otto von Bergow’s personal chambers in the Maiden’s tower on the third floor. You’ll find Godwin struggling to open the door, but you can use the keys from Istvan’s chambers to unlock it. The orders are in the chest on the far side of the room, near Otto’s desk. Once you have the orders, speak with Godwin, and he will guide you back to the prison where Katherine awaits.
The Final Escape
The escape from Trosky Castle is a linear but challenging journey. You must navigate through the underground passages and into the forest, where several guards are patrolling. Equipped with your sneaking outfit and a Nighthawk potion, you can see in the dark and avoid detection. Your goal is to head directly south and link up with Mika, Katherine’s contact, who has horses to aid your escape.
Unfortunately, Mika is spotted and tied up by the guards. Quietly dispatch the guard and free Mika. He reveals that the horse and wagon are nearby, but with a wounded man, you must wait until the soldiers finish searching the forest. Head south through the woods, avoiding the main road. Stick to the bushes and keep your Nighthawk potion refreshed to navigate past the guards. Eventually, you will find a broken wagon against the side of the road, confirming you are on the right track.
Continue south, maneuvering through the rocks to reach the edge of Apollonia. A cutscene will play, marking the end of this thrilling escape and the beginning of your next adventure in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
