Understanding the Quota in R.E.P.O.

In the chilling atmosphere of R.E.P.O., you are thrust into a nightmarish facility, tasked with meeting a quota set by the ever-watchful Taxman. The Taxman, a looming figure who represents your primary objective, demands that you collect a certain value of valuable items before you can extract and move on to the next level. Failing to meet this quota is more than just a setback; it sends you to Disposal, where your save file is mercilessly deleted, forcing you to start anew. The pressure is palpable, and the stakes are high, making every decision and move critical to your survival and progress.

Navigating the Facility

Upon exiting the R.E.P.O. van, the cold, industrial environment of the abandoned facility greets you. Each level is a randomly generated maze, filled with hidden treasures and lurking dangers. Your primary tool is a cart, which you need to fill with valuable items to meet the quota. The cart itself is a vital resource, as it not only helps you carry items but also serves as a tracking mechanism. The back of the cart, marked by a red hand icon, displays the total value of the items you’ve collected. This feature is crucial, allowing you to keep a constant eye on your progress without having to return to the extraction point frequently. It’s a handy way to ensure you stay on track and avoid the Taxman’s wrath.

Collecting and Storing Items

Your mission in R.E.P.O. is straightforward in theory but fraught with challenges in practice. You need to locate and collect items of value, which can range from small, easily portable objects to large, cumbersome ones. The facility is vast, and items are scattered throughout, often in hard-to-reach or well-hidden spots. Some items are more valuable than others, so it’s essential to prioritize what you pick up. However, don’t limit yourself to high-value items alone. Sometimes, accumulating a large number of less valuable objects can help you reach the quota more efficiently. Moreover, the cart’s dual functionality as a storage and tracking device means you can place items directly onto the extraction point if needed, especially when dealing with heavy objects that require a teammate’s assistance. This flexibility is a key strategy for success.

The Extraction Process

Once you’ve hit or exceeded the quota, the next step is to move the cart onto the extraction platform. This platform, marked by a metal surface and a display with a crying face, is located near the entrance of the facility. When you reach the quota, the display will show a giant green tick, and the crying face will change to a smile, signaling that you are ready to extract. Carefully maneuver the cart onto the platform and stay clear once the valuable items start to disappear. Standing on the platform after the quota is met can be fatal, as it closes in and crushes anyone remaining on it. This is a critical moment, so be quick and alert to avoid instant death and a game over.

Exiting the Level

After the cart is on the platform and the valuable items have been taken, the area will be engulfed in darkness, signaling the end of the round. However, this doesn’t mean you’re in the clear yet. The facility is still teeming with monsters and other dangers, so it’s crucial to exit through the van as quickly as possible. As you climb into the van, turn around and look at the overhead display. Here, you’ll see a chat between your character and the Taxman, giving you a brief moment to breathe and reflect on your success or failures. To execute the extraction, press and hold the interact button on the bar that features a white envelope at its center. This action will move you to the next level, bringing you one step closer to escaping the nightmare that is R.E.P.O.

Preparing for the Next Level

Between every level, you have a brief opportunity to spend the money you’ve earned. This downtime is crucial for restocking and upgrading your gear. Health is not automatically replenished, so purchasing health packs is a priority if you’ve taken any hits during the mission. Additionally, investing in upgrades can significantly enhance your chances of survival in the subsequent levels. The game saves your progress as you enter the next level, so ensure you are well-prepared. If you or your teammates die in a round, your save file will be deleted, and you’ll have to start from the beginning. This adds an extra layer of tension and importance to each level, making every decision and purchase count.
