Meeting Captain Trevik in Dawnshore

As you explore the captivating world of Avowed, you’ll encounter a variety of intriguing characters, each with their own stories and quests. One such memorable encounter is with Captain Trevik, a seasoned smuggler who finds himself in a bit of a bind. Trevik is on a mission to recover a luminous adra, a rare and valuable material, which he originally stole from the Vailian Trading Company. However, the adra was lost during a voyage through the perilous Deadfire Archipelago. Now, Trevik has a new piece of adra and intends to deliver it to Captain Bardatto, a representative of the Vailian Trading Company, to make amends. Your primary goal in this quest is to return the adra to Sapiento de Falva, an animancer with a keen interest in such materials. However, you have the option to assist Captain Trevik in his quest to satisfy Captain Bardatto, or you can take the adra from him and deliver it to Sapiento yourself.

The Choices Before You

After hearing Captain Trevik’s tale, you are presented with three distinct options to proceed. The first is to take the adra and speak with Captain Bardatto on Trevik’s behalf. This involves navigating a challenging and potentially violent encounter with Bardatto and her guards. The second option is to not help Captain Trevik and instead take the adra by force. This choice leads to an immediate battle with Trevik and his crew, who are no pushovers. The third option is to trick Captain Trevik by agreeing to help him, but then taking the adra to Sapiento de Falva instead. Each choice has its own set of consequences and rewards, and the final decision depends on your playstyle and the rewards you value most.

Dealing with Captain Bardatto

If you choose to help Captain Trevik, he will direct you to a meeting point where he plans to meet with Captain Bardatto and her guards. The location is to the east of Paradis, and upon your arrival, you’ll find Bardatto and her entourage, including a formidable bear, waiting for Trevik. Bardatto is convinced that you are there to negotiate on Trevik’s behalf and will demand the adra. You have two primary pathways to handle this situation: you can either choose to attack Bardatto and her guards or attempt to strike a deal with her. The guards are tier two combatants, and Bardatto herself is a tier two, rank three difficulty, making this a challenging encounter. If you decide to fight, having Fine quality weapons and armor is essential. The terrain here is familiar, as it’s the same area where you had to find the Cartographer earlier in the game, which can give you an advantage if you know the layout well.

The Potential Outcomes of Combat

If you choose to battle Bardatto and her guards, the fight will be intense. Each member of her group is a formidable opponent, and Bardatto’s bear adds an extra layer of difficulty. Victory in this encounter will not only clear Trevik’s debt to the Vailian Trading Company but also allow you to deliver the adra to Sapiento de Falva. In Paradis, Sapiento will reward you for your efforts with 300 coins, The Fantastic Alembic trinket, and 977 experience points. The Fantastic Alembic is a valuable item that clears you of all Accumulations you receive during a battle when you drink a potion, making it a useful tool for future conflicts.

Making a Deal with Bardatto

Alternatively, if you decide to negotiate with Captain Bardatto, you can avoid the fight altogether. You have the option to trade the adra for 500 coins, which is a more substantial reward than what Sapiento offers. By making this deal, you save Trevik’s life and avoid the risk of a difficult battle. However, you miss out on the trinket from Sapiento, which can be a significant drawback if you plan to engage in more battles. After making the deal with Bardatto, you will still need to speak with Sapiento. Here, you can choose to lie to him about what happened or tell him the truth, which can affect your relationship with him and the overall narrative of the game.

Stealing the Adra from Trevik

For those who prefer a more direct and ruthless approach, you can choose to steal the adra from Captain Trevik. This option involves a battle with Trevik and his crew, who are equipped to put up a strong fight. Upon defeating them, the adra will be within reach in the camp. You can then take it to Sapiento de Falva, who will reward you in the same way as if you had helped Trevik and then battled Bardatto. The rewards include 300 coins, The Fantastic Alembic trinket, and 977 experience points. This choice offers a quicker and more straightforward route to completing the quest, but it also means you forsake the moral complexity and potential for more substantial financial gain that comes with negotiating with Bardatto.

Weighing Your Options

Ultimately, the choice between helping Captain Trevik and taking the luminous adra by force or trickery depends on your priorities in Avowed. Helping Trevik and fighting Bardatto offers the most rewards, both from the battle and from Sapiento. Making a deal with Bardatto provides a safer and more profitable route, but you lose the chance to acquire The Fantastic Alembic trinket. Stealing the adra from Trevik is the most direct method, offering the same rewards as the other paths but without the moral ambiguity. Each decision will shape your character’s journey and interactions in the game, so consider your options carefully before proceeding.
