His Rapid Integration
Mika Biereth, the 21-year-old Danish striker, has made a remarkable impact since joining AS Monaco just a few weeks ago. His lightning-fast hat-trick against Auxerre in just eight minutes has not only earned him a glowing 9 from L’Équipe but also showcased his quick adaptation to his new environment. Biereth admits that everything happened very quickly, from leaving the Sturm Graz training camp to signing his contract and making his first appearances. "It’s always better when things happen quickly," he says, "It helps you get into the swing of things straight away." Despite initial setbacks, including a penalty miss in the Coupe de France anstgai Reims, Biereth has turned the page and is now on a promising streak, having scored four goals in his last three matches.
Living the Monaco Dream
Living alone since the beginning of his career, Biereth naturally adapted to his new life in Monaco. "I came here alone, and my family just came by when I arrived to visit and help me move some things, but otherwise, I live alone, and I really like this place," he shares. The contrast between the snowy conditions in Austria and the sunny south of France has been a welcome change. "I could not have dreamed of a better environment," Biereth says with a smile. The weather, combined with the club’s impressive history, has made his transition smoother. "Playing for Sturm Graz was great, but I felt like I had achieved what I wanted there. Winning the league and cup double, playing in the Champions League, and scoring in that competition was a milestone. When AS Monaco came calling, it was an easy decision to make," he adds, highlighting the club’s luxurious setting and the opportunity to compete at a higher level.
Connecting with Teammates
Biereth’s integration into the team has been seamless, facilitated by immediate on-pitch success. "It’s certain that playing and scoring quickly has helped a lot. I felt a lot of respect and kindness from my teammates, which has really sped up the process," he explains. One player who has played a significant role in his adaptation is Breel Embolo. "He is a great player and a real leader off the pitch," Biereth says, praising Embolo’s assistance. "He made me feel welcome and told me that I could count on him if I needed anything. It’s a great start to my Monaco journey." The pair’s on-field chemistry was evident in the Auxerre match, where Embolo’s selfless play and intelligence contributed to Biereth’s hat-trick. "It’s really comfortable to have teammates who can give you the ball in the best conditions, no matter your position on the pitch," Biereth adds, emphasizing the high tactical and technical level of his new team.
Impression of Ligue 1
Mika Biereth’s first impressions of Ligue 1 are overwhelmingly positive. "It’s a very good league, really different from what I experienced in Austria. The physical level of the players is really high, and tactically and technically, I’ve never played with such strong teammates," he says. His preseason experience against AS Monaco last summer further reinforced these impressions. "We were at the end of our preseason, and we faced Monaco who were in full recovery. Despite that, we could see the quality of their players even in a friendly match. It was one of those moments where you realize the step up in level," he recalls. Biereth is well aware of the pressure that comes with such a move, but he remains grounded. "I know that if I miss a big match, people will be quick to judge. Football is full of ups and downs, and I’m focusing on being as consistent as possible," he states, showing maturity beyond his years.
Formative Years and Inspirations
Reflecting on his formative years, Biereth highlights his time with Fulham’s U18s, where he scored 21 goals in 21 games, as a defining moment. "It was the beginning of what I can offer today, and it was the first time I became obsessed with scoring," he explains. His brief stint at Arsenal, where he was on the bench for the first team, was another valuable experience. "It was great, even if I never got the chance to come in. That’s part of football, and it helped shape me as a player," he adds. After Arsenal, Biereth had three loan spells, each with its own lessons. "My first loan in the Netherlands was tough. I didn’t really have the chance to show my qualities. Scotland, however, allowed me to enjoy playing again and get more playing time. And then Sturm Graz was where I truly found my form," he says. Biereth identifies himself as an "old-school" striker, drawing inspiration from players like Didier Drogba and comparing himself to "a poor man’s Erling Haaland" (smiling). His next step, he believes, is to continue his progression and integrate well at AS Monaco.
Goals and Aspirations
Biereth is realistic about his immediate goals at AS Monaco. "I just want to integrate well and gradually become an important member of this team," he says. "It’s never easy, especially when you’re 21 and coming from a more modest league to a Big 5 one." Despite the initial challenges, Biereth is determined to make a lasting impact. "I showed some good things in my first matches, and I realized the level of difficulty. But I’m focused on performing and learning as much as I can," he adds. One of his wildest dreams is to score a goal like Maghnes’ incredible effort against Rennes. "It was a really special goal, and I had the best view from the stadium. It’s a good dream, right?" he laughs. Biereth is also setting his sights on the Danish national team, having been called up several times for the U21s. "By performing well at club level, I believe the national team call-up will come one day," he concludes, emphasizing his commitment to AS Monaco.
A Message to the Supporters
Biereth’s message to the Monégasque supporters is heartfelt and appreciative. "Thank you for your support since my arrival! You will be a great help to us on Friday with a full away end at the Parc des Princes for a crucial match against Paris Saint-Germain. We will give it our all!" he says, showing his enthusiasm and gratitude. The club’s passionate fan base is a crucial component of his transition, and he looks forward to their continued support. "And we will also need you during the double-legged tie in the Champions League against Benfica. I look forward to seeing you again by our side," he adds, expressing his excitement for the upcoming challenges. Mika Biereth is determined to repay the faith shown in him by the club and its supporters, and he is confident that the best is yet to come.
