A Year of Transformation

Santiago Castro’s journey over the past year has been nothing short of transformative. In an interview with Il Resto del Carlino, he candidly opened up about the significant changes that have reshaped his life. "It has been a great year," Castro begins, reflecting on the myriad of shifts he has navigated. "My world has been turned upside down. Not only did my life change, but my team, coach, and city all transformed as well." Despite the whirlwind of adjustments, Castro remains deeply grateful for the move. "I’m very happy to be here. It was the right choice," he affirms, emphasizing the positive impact Bologna has had on his career.

The Decision That Made the Difference

Before Castro made his way to Bologna, he had a range of options on the table. "Four teams wanted me before I moved: Fiorentina, Genoa, and an English one," he recalls. However, it was not just the professional opportunities that swayed him; it was the personal touch that made Bologna stand out. "Two factors made the difference: the possible Champions League qualification and, more importantly, how the directors made me feel. The human element prevailed," Castro explains. This personal connection and the club’s ambitious goals played a pivotal role in his decision, ultimately leading him to Bologna.

Navigating the Future with Inter Buzz

Despite his current satisfaction, the media has not ceased speculating about his future, particularly with frequent links to Inter Milan. "Santiago Castro has been frequently attached to Inter, which will need to replenish their frontline in the summer," notes the report. However, Castro maintains a pragmatic and focused mindset. "I’m not thinking about it. I can take it as a motivation, but I must focus only on my club and doing well here," he asserts. The dedicated forward is clear about his immediate priorities. "The standings and the Coppa Italia are my only fixations. I can’t waste energy on anything else," he adds, demonstrating a strong commitment to his current team.

A Deep Connection with Bologna

While the future remains uncertain, Castro’s present is filled with joy and contentment. "I don’t know if I’ll stay here long-term. You never know in football," he acknowledges, but his affection for Bologna is evident. "I’m very happy in this town and club. I like it when the fans stop me. It’s truly a great environment," he shares, highlighting the warm and supportive atmosphere he has found in Bologna. The connection with the fans and the community has made his transition smoother and more rewarding, further cementing his bond with the club.

Inspirational Figures and Personal Goals

When reflecting on his football idols, Castro points to several influential figures who have shaped his journey. "When I started following football, Diego Milito was my idol. Then Velez’ Lucas Pratto. And, obviously, Lautaro Martinez," he says, revealing the players who have inspired him throughout his career. These role models have not only influenced his playing style but also his mindset and aspirations. In terms of personal goals, Castro has set a clear objective for himself. "Lorenzo De Silvestri told me last summer that I should score 12 goals across all competitions. We have a piece of paper in the locker that keeps track of that," he reveals, demonstrating his commitment to his goals.

Gratitude and Growth with Vincenzo Italiano

Finally, Castro extends his gratitude to Bologna’s coach, Vincenzo Italiano, for his significant impact. "The coach is very good. He helped me change my mentality and style and be fiercer. We’ll do great things with him," he praises. Under Italiano’s guidance, Castro has not only improved his technical skills but also developed a more resilient and aggressive approach to the game. This growth and the supportive environment at Bologna have set the stage for continued success, both for Castro and the team.
