Juve Victorious against Verona
Juventus returned to winning ways and continued their impressive league form with a hard-fought victory against Hellas Verona. Following their difficult loss to Empoli in the Coppa Italia last week, the Bianconeri secured another win, marking their fifth consecutive Serie A triumph. This victory has brought them to within six points of the league’s summit and just three points behind Atalanta, who they will face on Sunday, March 9, at the Allianz Stadium.
First Half: Juve Dangerous, But Montipo Keeps Them at Bay
The match kicked off with Juventus asserting their dominance from the start. In the 3rd minute, Manuel Locatelli attempted a shot from outside the box, but it went wide. Verona quickly responded a minute later through Tomas Suslov, but Michele Di Gregorio was quick to defuse the danger. The first genuine opportunity for Juve came in the 13th minute when Andrea Cambiaso found Khephren Thuram in the box. Thuram’s powerful shot was brilliantly saved by Lorenzo Montipo, highlighting the goalkeeper’s form.
Kenan Yildiz had another chance for Juventus in the 19th minute, unleashing a strike from outside the box. The ball deflected into Randal Kolo Muani’s path, but he couldn’t capitalize. Despite their pressure, Juventus found themselves thwarted by Montipo once again in the 40th minute when Yildiz came close to scoring. Verona nearly took the lead with a spectacular 25-yard strike by Suslov, but a VAR review disallowed the goal due to Davide Faraoni’s offside position earlier in the move.
Second Half: Thuram Opens the Scoring, Koopmeiniers Put It to Bed
The Bianconeri came back strong after halftime, maintaining their aggressive approach. Just four minutes into the second half, Kolo Muani had a close call, but Montipo made another decisive save. Juventus’s persistence paid off in the 72nd minute when a precise pass by Locatelli found Cambiaso, who delivered a perfect cross to Thuram. Thuram made no mistake, powering his right-footed shot past Montipo to break the deadlock and put Juventus ahead 1-0.
Thuram’s goal lifted the spirits of the Allianz Stadium crowd, and Juventus continued to press for a second goal. In the 82nd minute, Locatelli came close to doubling the lead with a shot on the turn, but Montipo was once again a formidable obstacle. The match reached its climax in the 90th minute when Montipo’s clearance went astray. Alberto Costa intercepted the ball and set up Samuel Mbangula, whose clever touch found Teun Koopmeiners. Koopmeiners calmly slotted the ball into the net, sealing the 2-0 victory for Juventus.
