Movsar Evloev: The Unstoppable Force in Featherweight
Movsar Evloev, an undefeated Russian fighter with a perfect 19-0 record, including nine consecutive wins in the UFC, is a rising star in the featherweight division. Currently ranked No. 4 globally, Evloev is keen to stay active in 2025 as he eyes a title shot. After spending 11 months between fights in 2024, the importance of remaining busy and relevant cannot be overstated. Evloev is aware that the path to the title is fraught with challenges, but his determination and skill are his greatest assets.
Eyeing the Top Spot: A Balanced Approach
While Evloev is eager to challenge for the featherweight title, he acknowledges that a rematch between reigning champion Ilia Topuria and former champion Alexander Volkanovski is a strong possibility. Despite Volkanovski’s status as a legend, Evloev believes his time at the top has passed. "They already fought, and Volk lost to Ilia," Evloev explained. "We have new names in the featherweight division, and I’m No. 4. You want to see the fight between Volk and Ilia or me and Ilia?" Evloev respects Volkanovski but believes it’s time for fresh blood, and he’s confident that his power and drive make him a formidable contender.
The Importance of Frequent Fights
Evloev has learned that focusing strictly on higher-ranked fighters may not always be the best strategy. He emphasizes the importance of staying active and relevant, even if it means facing lower-ranked opponents. "I spent too much time waiting for somebody to fight," Evloev said. "It doesn’t matter what ranking you have if you have no title. I need to fight often." This pragmatic approach is key to his strategy, as he aims to keep himself in the public eye and maintain his skills through consistent competition.
Rematch with Diego Lopes: A Welcome Challenge
One potential opponent on Evloev’s radar is Diego Lopes, whom he defeated in a Fight of the Night performance in 2023. Despite already holding a win over Lopes, Evloev is open to a rematch. "Why not?" Evloev said. "This guy has been impressive after losing to me and now he’s higher in the rankings. Why not him? Any one of them is a good fight for me." Evloev’s willingness to face Lopes again underscores his commitment to facing the best and staying active, regardless of the opponent’s ranking.
Contending with Legends: Max Holloway and Beyond
The featherweight division also includes former champion Max Holloway, who has announced his intention to move to the lightweight division. However, Evloev is not ruling out a potential fight with Holloway. "We still have Max Holloway in the rankings even after he said he’s not going to come back to featherweight," Evloev noted. "If he still wants to fight featherweight, his name is also on my list. I want to fight him also because he’s also a big legend, a big name." Evloev’s flexibility and openness to various matchups highlight his strategic approach to climbing the ranks and securing a title shot.
Staying Active: The Key to Success
Ultimately, Evloev’s primary goal is to stay active and keep pushing forward towards a title shot. "While I’m waiting [for a title shot], I can fight," Evloev said. "I can fight with anyone and I’m still waiting for the title shot. Just don’t freeze me out, don’t let me wait for the title without any fights at all." By maintaining a busy schedule and remaining a consistent threat in the featherweight division, Evloev hopes to position himself as the next contender for the title, proving that his time and effort are well-spent.
