A New Era for Ducati: Marquez and Bagnaia Team Up

Marc Marquez’s move to the factory Ducati squad has created a buzz in the MotoGP community, forming what many consider a "dream team" not seen in the premier class in almost a decade. This pairing of two former champions, Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia, has raised expectations to unprecedented heights. The 2024 season saw Ducati dominate, and the consensus is that beating the duo in 2025 will be a monumental task. However, Marquez is quick to dispel any notions of a two-horse race. "We are in MotoGP – everybody is super fast," he said. "If you expect 1-2 every weekend, you don’t know what MotoGP is."

Realistic Expectations and Diverse Competitors

Marquez believes that the 2025 season will be marked by intense battles among various riders, both within and outside the Ducati camp. He points to Gigi Dall’Igna’s decision to use the same engine and chassis across all six Desmosedicis as evidence that there will be a level playing field. "All Ducati riders can fight for the win because we start with a similar base [of bike]," he added. "We cannot forget Pedro Acosta, and I would like to say Jorge Martin but he is not here. Marco Bezzecchi. The consistency is the most important. In a single race, many riders can be fast, many riders can win a single race."

Bagnaia’s Perspective: Intense but Fair Competition

Francesco Bagnaia shares a similar view, acknowledging the strength of his new team-mate and the broader competitive landscape. "For a 1-2 every race weekend, I will sign [up] right now!" he quipped when asked about the possibility. Bagnaia expects intense competition and highlights the performances of other Ducati riders and key rivals. "Looking at the lap times in the test, Aprilia with Bezzecchi was strong and competitive. And also the other Ducati riders because both Morbidelli and other riders were fast and competitive," he noted. Bagnaia is confident but realistic, emphasizing the need to be prepared for every scenario.

The Importance of Consistency

Both Marquez and Bagnaia stress the importance of consistency in the championship. While many riders can win a single race, the overall title will hinge on consistent performance throughout the season. "The championship is quite long but every race counts," Marquez emphasized. Bagnaia echoed this sentiment, adding, "It is difficult to say for the championship who will be the main contenders, who will be the more consistent but I think for the first race all the Ducati riders, Aprilia with Bezzecchi and KTM with Acosta can fight for the win."

Team Dynamics and Psychological Battles

With both riders having the same equipment and the margins between them being so tight, the possibility of psychological battles cannot be ruled out. Bagnaia doesn’t expect Marquez to engage in mind games early in the season but acknowledges that the competition could intensify as the title race progresses. "We don’t have any agreement," he explained. "We are [just] starting the season. It’s not a secret that we both want to win the championship, we are here for that and the ambition in our team is to win the championship – we will have to do the maximum." Bagnaia believes that the initial focus will be on improvement and learning from the new bike, with the best rider winning in the end.

Preparing for the 2025 MotoGP Season

As the 2025 MotoGP season approaches, the arrival of Marc Marquez at Ducati has set the stage for an exciting and highly competitive year. Both Marquez and Bagnaia are fully aware of the challenges ahead and the importance of teamwork and consistency. While the world watches with bated breath, the MotoGP paddock is bracing for a season filled with intense battles, unexpected outcomes, and the triumph of skill and perseverance. The 2025 season promises to be a memorable one, with Marquez and Bagnaia leading the charge for Ducati.
