His leadership both on the field and in media appearances was commendable, and he seems genuinely invested in being a Patriot. While Maye’s performance was encouraging, the lack of talent around him was evident. The offensive line was a significant weak point, and the wide receivers struggled to get separation. Having a reliable backup like Milton is crucial, and if the team decides to add a third quarterback for insurance, it should be someone with experience in the McDaniels system.

Maye’s rookie contract is a significant benefit for the Patriots. With a base salary of $960,000 and a cap hit of $8.327 million, he is a bargain, taking up only 2.7 percent of the projected cap. Milton, the 190th overall pick, also has a small cap hit of $1.05 million. The Patriots are currently 27th in the league in quarterback spending, and they are likely to remain low on this metric for the foreseeable future. This financial flexibility will be crucial as the team seeks to build around Maye.
Offseason Priorities
Given that the Patriots have found their franchise quarterback in Maye, their offseason priorities should focus on building a supporting cast around him.
