Sophie Luff, a 31-year-old cricket enthusiast and seasoned player, has been appointed as the first professional captain of Somerset Women for the inaugural season of the new Women’s County competition. Luff’s connection to the county runs deep, as she began her journey in cricket by playing for Somerset’s age groups before making her debut for the senior women’s team in 2009. Over the years, she has become a stalwart of the club, featuring in 74 List A matches and scoring an impressive 2330 runs at an average of 43.14, with a highest score of 138 not out. Her proficiency in T20 cricket is equally commendable, having played in 68 matches and scored 1675 runs at an average of 35.63. Luff’s return to Somerset is a homecoming that fills her with a profound sense of pride and achievement.
